South Gate Brewing Company was founded in 2013 by husband and wife team Casey and Lindsay Hawkins along with Brewmaster Rick Boucke. Casey and Lindsay arrived in Oakhurst from San Diego in 2012 seeking to work and raise their family in the serenity and beauty of the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Brown Soul Brewing Co. has opened its doors as the first and only Latino-owned brewery in South Gate. It's ready to introduce the city and the greater Southeast L.A. area to craft beer and a seasonal, seafood-based drinking menu.

The soon-to-be brewery and eatery founders hope to create an inviting community space anchored around Latino-inspired craft beer and Jalisco-style mariscos. Founded by four community members born and raised in South Gate, South Central, and Huntington Park, Brown Soul Brewing Co. consists of Hugo Sanchez, Victor Zamudio, Dora Mejia, and Noe Tellez.
